Food for Kids – A Backpack Program
This program provides food for children in the Paris School system. These meals are distributed to all five schools in the district on Friday afternoons and allow the children sustenance during the weekend. Food for Kids is funded by donations from churches, individuals, civic groups, local businesses and grants in the Paris area. The school faculty has reassured us that this program is making a difference in the behavior and academics of the children that we serve.
Oblong Christian Children’s Home
Oblong Children’s Christian Home, with homes in Oblong and Fairfield, Illinois, is a ministry of Christian Churches and Churches of Christ to abused and troubled children who are 5 to 17 years old, providing them with God’s unconditional love, a stable, structured environment and a family-style group home.
Sunday Ude Obeten
Sunday serves as a missionary in Nigeria. He continues his faithful work of training leaders and establishing Christian Churches in Nigeria. Our prayers and monetary gifts are vital as Sunday and his wife continue to serve our Lord.
Todd and Tonja Hancock
Todd and Tonja are working to establish self-sustaining churches in Mexico that will share the love of Christ in one of the world’s largest metropolitan areas. They mentor and disciple several believers and leaders and lead small group studies. Tonja also serves by teaching at Puebla Christian School.
Choices, Pregnancy & Health
This mission serves four communities: Paris, Charleston, Mattoon and Casey. They strive to share with those that come to them the value and importance of life. Choices also helps their clients understand that they are loved and that God will help them through this time in their lives.
Lincoln Christian University
Located in Lincoln, IL, Lincoln Christian University is an accredited four year institution of higher learning. It was founded to prepare Christian young people to be the next ministers, missionaries, teachers, and citizens to be used by God to change our society.
Camp Illiana serves over 100 Christian churches in Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky and other surrounding states. They strive to love kids into the kingdom, encourage families as God ordained them, facilitate group ministries, and to be servants of the Church and allies of the family.
Faith in Action
Faith in Action offers compassion, love and fellowship to families in Edgar County. This is accomplished by providing transportation for residents with chronic illnesses or physical impairments, arranging for walkers, crutches and other medical assistance needs, constructing wheelchair ramps, handrails and steps and assisting with shopping needs and out-of-town medical appointments. These tasks are done by volunteers to assist with quality of life necessities and to maintain the independence of our community members.
Compassionate Food Pantry
The Compassionate Food Pantry is a vital ministry for the people of Edgar County. Every Wednesday morning they serve families that are in need of some food assistance. The pantry buys food from the East Central Illinois Food Bank and receives donations from local business and charity food drives. This volunteer run program is located at the Craig Storage facility on Cherry Point Road in Paris.
Compassionate Clothing Closet
This local mission serves our community by providing clothing to people in need. In addition to our monetary contributions, our church serves by sorting and checking out clothing throughout the year. This local ministry is vital in supporting the clothing essentials of the Paris community and Edgar County.
Founded in 2007, Lifeline-Connect is a 12-month, faith-based, residential recovery center of six men at a time focusing on whole-life treatment for substance abuse recovery. It provides a healthy and stable environment where men are able to focus on their recovery and receive the support and training they need. They also learn life skills to assist with their transition back with their families and workplace. Lifeline-Connect is in the process of expanding their facilities to allow for a 24-resident dormitory.
Ryan is working for Team Expansion, a missionary sending agency located in Louisville, KY, as an intern recruiter. He visits college campuses and encourages students to consider serving in cross cultural mission fields and then assists them to make all the arrangements to serve in those mission fields. Ryan is also completing the necessary preparations for himself to serve in the fields.
Multi Ministries Panama
This mission ministry was started by David and Yvonne Oldenburg. They describe the beginning of their mission like this. “We came down to Panama and with the guidance of the Holy Spirit found ourselves connecting with people who were already doing ministries. They just needed more hands and feet and financial assistance. We have helped over 15 ministries, and become integral to a few.”
