Pleasant Meadows Auxiliary
Ladies from BRCC have been volunteering at Pleasant Meadows on the third Friday of every month & special days since it was opened in 1975. PM now has 109 nursing beds, 12 residential units & 4 apartments. The Haven Center opened in 2000 to care for the needs of the Alzheimer residents.
Volunteers do many things such as:
- Do Sewing sew on buttons, mending, name tags or alterations.
- Deliver mail.
- Help in the dining room at meal time.
- Visit with residents.
- Water flowers outside or do weeding.
- Help each September with the annual craft & bake sale by making things themselves to be sold, collecting items from fellow church members & helping at the event itself.
- Making table decorations for the dining room.
- Collecting items for the shopping cart where residents can get various items they need. Do a Christmas party each year for the residents - we collect money from our congregations to purchase gifts for each resident(they get to put on a list what they need). We then do the shopping for these items. Gifts are then wrapped by the volunteers. We make cookies, etc for the party & decorate the dining room for it. Their families are invited to join them for this event.
- Throughout the year special events are held to brighten their lives such as a 50's night, luau, cookout, etc. Their families are also invited to participate in these.
- Take a water cart to each room and give the residents fresh water and ice.
Those who bring sunshine to the lives of others cannot keep it from themselves.
"We ourselves feel that what we are doing is just a drop in the ocean. But the ocean would be less because of that missing drop." Mother Teresa
